Pastel perfection: The colourful canvas of Bridget’s dream home
Bridget and her family’s 1930’s weatherboard farmhouse in New Plymouth is a celebration of colour and vintage charm. With sweeping 180-degree views of the ocean and Mount Ruapehu in the distance from their kitchen window, Bridget has carefully curated a home that reflects her passion for pastel hues and elegant interior design. Using a thoughtful palette of Resene paints, she’s brought a vibrant, personal touch to every room.
When they first moved in, anaglypta wallpaper throughout the home was painted in Resene Concrete and all internal doors were painted in Resene Triple Concrete, which set a neutral base. Yet, Bridget was eager to make the space her own, starting with the bold hallway transformation.
"The house had been well looked after but needed some updating and colour," Bridget says. “The first thing I painted over was a bright red feature wall in the hallway. I painted over the red in Resene Soothe, a warm dusky pink, and from that day, I became hooked on the impact colour can have in a room.”

One of Bridget’s favourite projects is the kitchen renovation, which involved repurposing the 1990’s shaker cabinets and giving them a fresh, modern twist. "I kept the cabinets and painted them in Resene Ethereal and Resene Double Alabaster," she says. The result is a charming and timeless look, completed by a Duropal benchtop and brass tap from ABI Interiors. The soft, soothing tones continue onto the walls and low ceiling, painted in Resene Half Duck Egg Blue, complemented by a green sliding door in Resene Inside Back.
"Our kitchen is my favourite room in the house. I love the pink cabinets and brass hardware," Bridget notes. These details blend seamlessly with the pastel tones she has lovingly introduced throughout the home.

Their living room is a perfect extension of her grand-millennial aesthetic. Continuing the gentle blue palette from the kitchen, she painted the lounge in Resene Double Duck Egg Blue. "The room looks much fresher now," Bridget says.
The family’s rumpus room is where Bridget allowed herself to have a bit more fun with colour. Using a range of Resene testpots, she created a vibrant mural. "I went all out with pinks, oranges and greens," she explains. The space is shared by Bridget and her daughters, giving them the perfect place to relax and enjoy some creativity together.

For their daughters’ rooms, Bridget continued to inject personality with pops of colour. "I painted a Resene Gelato feature wall in Payton's room and painted a bright headboard for Freya in Resene Smitten," she says. The subtle use of soft, feminine tones reflects the playful and personal approach Bridget has taken throughout the home.

The couple's home is a testament to her love of pastels and vintage-inspired décor. She describes her style as "feminine, colourful and vintage-inspired with a touch of glam." The house, which she shares with her husband Casey and daughters Payton and Freya, has become a creative canvas where Bridget’s passion for design shines.
Her journey in renovating and repainting her forever home has been one of experimentation, learning and joy. "It is very freeing to just enjoy colours and decorate your home for your family, not for resale value," Bridget says. For this family, it’s not just about the beautiful views or historic charm, but about making their home truly their own.
