Orewa’s mural masterpiece adds to its lively beach vibe

Noila Souza's vibrant murals can be found in various locations around Orewa. If you’ve noticed them as you walk or drive by, then you’ll see they all have a common theme – bright and inspiring Resene hues.  

Her work on the Orewa public toilet earned her Best Professional Mural: 2nd Place Winner in the Resene Mural Masterpieces Competition. This mural was inspired by the beach vibe that is present at Orewa. The public toilet walls were once a blank canvas and now they are as bright and colourful as summertime. 

The Orewa public toilets are now a joyful sight thanks to Noila, brightening an otherwise dull building. The mural is painted in Resene Turbo, Resene Bright Red, Resene Red Hot, Resene Surfs Up, Resene Curious Blue, Resene All Black, Resene Ultramarine, Resene California, Resene Sand, Resene Brown Sugar and Resene Splash. 

Growing up in Brazil, and now residing in New Zealand, Noila has always felt a deep connection to the natural environment, and in particular, the sea. It provides a lot of inspiration, with ocean references featuring greatly throughout her detailed paintings. 

Within her Orewa artwork, Noila captures not only nature, but the joy and excitement of the kitesurfing and surfing at the beach. The skate ramp mural, featuring manta rays riding a skateboard, was a collaborative idea with Melissa Johnston, Project Manager of the Parks & Community Facilities Department, who organised the project. Noila brought this concept to life with her unique design and execution.

The theme of Noila’s latest mural in Torbay is football. Her Brazilian creativity shone through as she transformed the wall with her imaginative interpretation of the sport.  

Located in Torbay, Noila’s mural captures the heart and soul of football, inspiring local players and children to get into the spirit of the sport. The mural is painted in inspiring shades including Resene All Black, Resene Turbo, Resene Bright Red, Resene Curious Blue, Resene California, Resene Brown Sugar and Resene Splash.
