Making an entrance with Resene Dark Knight

Resene paints have the transformative power to turn an ordinary entryway into a breath-taking introduction to a home, as showcased in Marilyn's stunning project.

This space has undergone a remarkable makeover using Resene Dark Knight within a large front entry area. Marilyn's vision was not merely to refresh the space but to infuse it with a more distinctive sense of arrival with vitality and warmth.

The entry is a pivotal nexus within the home, connecting to a formal lounge and gallery area, family areas and bedrooms. Marilyn's appreciation for the interplay of light and the architectural qualities of the space guided her design choices. With a keen eye for detail, she sought to enhance the space's inherent drama while imbuing it with a touch of sophistication.

Formerly painted in neutrals, the entry is now a focal point that commands attention and sets the tone for the rest of the home. The walls are painted in Resene Dark Knight, a timeless and charming colour that works well with all other elements in the space.

Drawing inspiration from a vine wallpaper design she loves, Marilyn chose Resene Dark Knight for the entry atrium, infusing the space with a rich, velvety hue that exudes luxury and depth. Against the backdrop of tawa tongue-and-groove flooring, this striking slate blue created a captivating contrast in the space.

The bright and spacious entry means the dark shade of Resene Dark Knight painted on the walls doesn’t become overpowering or too shadowy, instead it is highlighted by the natural light entering the atrium space.

A hallway near the entrance also got a makeover using  in another bold and sophisticated shade, Resene Jaguar. Although a somewhat controversial choice within the household, Resene Jaguar used on the bedroom and bathroom doors of this area provides deep contrast to artworks hung within the space and helps with the transition from the larger volume formal entry space.

Marilyn says the impeccable finish achieved by the painting contractors with Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel paint further enhances the doors' allure which particularly at night gives them an extra “luxe factor”. 

The doors in the hallway, painted in Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel tinted to Resene Jaguar, a sophisticated and dramatic inky hue.

As guests traverse the threshold of Marilyn's beautiful home, they are greeted not only by a physical space but by an experience — a symphony of colour, light and texture orchestrated with finesse. This is an entryway that not only welcomes but captivates, leaving an indelible impression on all who enter.
